Hemp seeds, or sometimes referred to as hemp heart,s are the seeds of the hemp plant. They are highly nutritious and provide a range of health benefits. They are rich in protein, dietary fibre – both soluble and insoluble, and healthy fatty acids, including omega 3 & 6, which are good for heart health and skin health.
These seeds contain about 35% of essential fatty acids and 33% plant protein. They also contain all nine essential amino acids and they are an abundant source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Because of their dietary fat and fibre content, these seeds may help you to feel fuller longer. But due to their fat content, these seeds are also fairly high in calories.
Incorporate them in your diet for an extra boost of healthy fats and fibre by topping them to your salads or smoothies bowls, blending them into smoothies, or making your own hemp milk. They can also be used as a rice or bread crumb alternative. You can even make your own hemp apricot energy balls! Easy to make and surprisingly satisfying, these energy balls make a perfect snack for kids and adults alike. Grab two in the morning in your way out the door, or munch on one post-workout for a delicious energy boost! Check out our recipe here.
